Bromley CCG - Stakeholder Bulletin - Autumn 2018

Date: 14 December 2018

A warm welcome to our autumn Stakeholder Bulletin.  At our Governing Body meeting in November, our members received a report on how patients are informing our decision making.  You can read the report on our website and we have featured some of the highlights in this bulletin.  It illustrates how patients are directly impacting on service improvements and changes.

Despite some newspaper headlines about the availability of this year's flu vaccination, new supplies are on their way so please, if you haven't already, make an appointment to have yours.  This is particularly important if you fall into one of the high risk groups.  The flu is nasty and every year puts many of our frailer patients in hospital.  Getting your jab is the best way to protect yourself.

Since the CCG took over responsibility for commissioning general medical services from GPs, we have been working hard with patients and our primary care workforce to improve and transform these services.  In this bulletin you can read about our primary care needs assessment which has included input from a number of groups and communities in Bromley.  The outcomes of this work are being used to inform the development of a sustainable model of primary care in Bromley.  Patients told us; that despite initiatives to improve access, a number are still finding a pressure on GP appointments;  they would welcome reception staff providing a signposting service and although prevention is seen as important, it is the element of care that is sacrificed when patients perceive a strain on the healthcare system.

You will also see from this bulletin, how we are working much harder to reach and hear from groups who are seldom heard.  This includes extensive engagement with young people to involve them, particularly around emotional and mental wellbeing.  We have successfully bid for additional resources from the NHS Citizen Exemplar Programme to help us with our engagement with young people.  Nationally, only three CCG programmes have been funded so we are delighted to receive this additional support.

Finally, huge thanks to all our patient advisory group members who work closely with the CCG to inform our borough wide programmes of work.  We could not do this work without your valuable input.
