A ‘Good’ rating for Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group

NHS Bromley CCG has maintained its ‘Good’ headline rating on the 2017/18 CCG Improvement and Assessment Framework (CCG IAF).  This framework describes the CCG’s annual performance assessment against the following components: 

  • Quality of the leadership
  • Financial management and performance
  • Performance against 48 indicators relating to the NHS constitution, other core performance, health outcomes and transformation objectives.

Our assessment recognised the strengths of the CCG  leadership, our financial management and performance improvements.  Of particular note are improvements in areas we particularly focused on after last year’s results, such as better quality hospital care, patient experience and the implementation of personal health budgets.  Also noted was our improved performance in dementia diagnosis rates, 18 week referral for treatment standard and an outstanding rating for involving patients and the public in our work.    Working with our partners, we have continued to perform in the top quartile of CCGs on a number of indicators including delayed transfers of care (how well we get patients who no longer need to be in hospital out into the community), appropriate prescribing and cancer survival rates.     

Over the next few months, we will focus on improving areas that require further attention such as earlier diagnosis of cancer and recovery rates for people using psychological therapy services. 

As our local population continues to grow and demand for health care inevitably increases,  this places more pressure on local services.  Despite this, we have worked together as a whole system in Bromley to ensure residents have good access to safe, effective and sustainable health services.  This involves providing as much care as possible out of hospital and proactively responding to the needs of our most vulnerable patients.   Notable improvements include the successful delivery of our proactive care pathway which has seen over 1500 patients referred for an assessment; additional investment in schemes to help relieve the pressure on emergency and urgent care services over winter, more GP appointments available from 8am to 8pm seven days a week, £1.7 million investment in additional GP services; the successful procurement of community health services which will deliver a range of improvements including more early intervention and prevention and a single point of contact, and improvements in the local estate to enable us to deliver improved services from high quality, purpose built accommodation.
