In 2018, the CCG worked with Bromley Council to develop a strategy to enable people to age well in Bromley.
To inform what needed to be in the strategy and what our engagement approach with the wider community should be, we held a workshop with 18 members of our Patient Advisory Group. The workshop outcome report is available here.
Their views were used to inform an engagement plan which targeted the groups we needed to hear from. We also tested a public survey with them and incorporated their views.
The engagement focused on finding out how people would meet these four outcomes:
• Outcome Statement 1: I socialise, participate and make my own choices
• Outcome Statement 2: I feel healthy and can get the health and care service I need when I need it
• Outcome Statement 3: My home meets my aspirations and needs.
• Outcome Statement 4: I am safe and I feel safe and I trust people around me
A two month engagement process was undertaken which included a survey, many face to face sessions in the community with the target audience and a public meeting. The outreach engagement was supported by AGE UK and other community groups and included visiting befriending groups, armchair exercise sessions, Asian cultural society, cafes and libraries, men in sheds project, day centres, community centres and lunch clubs.
Following the end of the engagement process, we held co-design groups involving members of the public to review the outcomes, test any assumptions and agree the next steps. The engagement outcomes report will be published shortly and the strategy will be launched in the Spring. A co-delivery group involving the public will be established to oversee delivery of the strategy.
