Bromley care wins national Hospice UK care award

Date: 28 November 2014

NHS Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is pleased to share the news that St Christopher’s Bromley Care Coordination service (based at Caritas House, Orpington) this week won an Innovation in Care award at the Hospice UK Awards ceremony in Leeds.

Commissioned by NHS Bromley CCG for patients in Bromley, the service coordinates care for patients and supports their families and carers to help people die with dignity, in a place of their choice, and reduce unnecessary hospital admissions.

The Hospice UK Awards, supported in 2014 by The National Gardens Scheme, are now in their fourth year and recognise the significant contributions that individuals and innovative programmes make to hospice care in local communities across the UK.

Andrew Parson, Bromley GP and Clinical Chair of NHS Bromley CCG, said: "We are very proud of St Christopher’s Bromley Care Coordination Service. This service means people in Bromley who are at the end of their lives have a much better experience of care in their final days. It can make a great difference for patients, their families and carers. It's an excellent example of the good work we can do through close partnership working in the NHS."

Jan Noble, St Christopher’s Bromley Care Coordination Project lead, said: “We were thrilled to win this award. Our nursing and admin team has worked hard over the past year establishing this new service to meet the challenge of bringing equity in end of life care for older people with advanced disease or frailty. Funding from NHS Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group has ensured that patients get a timely and seamless service bringing together health and social care. It is truly a coordinated service for the residents of Bromley.”

David Praill, Chief Executive of Hospice UK, said: “We had so many nominations and such a high calibre of individuals and schemes being entered that the Hospice UK Awards judging panel was spoilt for choice. These awards confirm what a lot of us already know, that the UK is extremely privileged to have such incredible individuals and teams driving hospice care forward year after year.”

The awards recognise outstanding achievements by a variety of people and highlight the wonderful, dedicated work that goes on in hospices up and down the country. Congratulations St Christopher’s!
