Bromley Well new autism service and an open day

Date: 11 February 2020

People with Autism aged 16+ are set to get extra support with the launch of a new, borough wide service.

Bromley Well has been delivering preventative services to a wide range of people since October 2017.

Since then the number of referrals from people with Autism has increased significantly. In response, Bromley Well is pleased to be launching this new service which offers practical and emotional support to people with Autism aged 16 and up.

Eddie Lynch, one of the Directors at Bromley Third Sector Enterprise* (BTSE) and Chief Executive at Bromley Mencap said,

"Through our consultation with young people it became clear that more support is needed around transition, housing, benefits, health, employment, life skills training and social and leisure activities. A survey of parents and carers through the Bromley Autism Partnership Group identified that information was poor and there is a lack of clarity around community services for young people with Autism. The new service will provide specialist one-to-one and group support to people with Autism aged 16+. Starting support at age 16 will ensure young people are supported through the transition to adulthood which can present challenges for people with Autism."

Chris Towers, Bromley Well's Autism Information and Support Worker said, "The support will include drop-ins and outreach sessions across the borough to ensure we're reaching as many people as possible. There will also be monthly workshops and peer support at Community House, South Street in central Bromley. These sessions will be run by BTSE Associate Member CASPA.  If you'd like to find out more, please call Bromley Well on 0300 330 9039 or email us spa@bromleywell.org.uk."

Public Open Day 17th February

People are invited to find out more at a free open session at Norman Park, BR2 9SX, on Monday 17th February 10-2pm when the Bromley Well Team for services for disabled people will be on hand to chat over a cup of tea and cake!
