Covid 19 - changes at King’s College Hospital

With immediate effect, King’s College Hospital FT is escalating its response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) within their existing major incident framework. This will enable the Trust’s to continue to effectively and safely manage the expected and increasing number of patients testing positive for Coronavirus.

At Denmark Hill and the PRUH, with the exception of surgery for cancer and other life threatening conditions, all elective inpatient activity will stop until further notice. Day case activity will continue but will be reviewed daily. Outpatient appointments should be conducted by virtual clinics or telephone consultations as long as it is clinically safe to do so.

This will enable King’s to increase the Trust’s inpatient bed capacity to allow us to effectively cohort patients with Coronavirus, patients awaiting their results, as well as prioritise and redirect our resources. This will require a step-change in their day to day operations.
