The first patients are being welcomed to a new £5million medical centre in the London Borough of Bromley this week.
The state-of-the-art health centre will be home to Park Practice and Oakfield Surgery and will provide modern and fit-for-purpose primary care facilities for the local community, serving a patient list of more than 13,000 people.
NHS Property Services coordinated the construction of the new site, in Oakfield Road, which will be known as Oaks Park Medical Centre and opened on Monday, 12 June.
Catherine Webster, Senior Construction Manager at NHS Property Services, said:
“We are very pleased to see the first patients being treated in this new, modern health centre.
“We hope that this will become an asset to the local community and provide a great working environment for our NHS and primary care colleagues.”
The building features nine consulting rooms, four treatment rooms with utilities, a meeting / health education room and office space and facilities for staff. Space has also been provided for a pharmacy.
Dr Margaret Fagbohun, Senior Partner at The Park Practice, said: “We are delighted to move to the Oaks Park Medical Centre, which will enable us to keep delivering excellent healthcare to the local community, and would like to thank all our patients and NHS colleagues for their continued support.”
The construction project was carried out in partnership with Haven Health Properties Ltd and Buxton Building Contractors Ltd and involved the demolition of the former clinic on the site that closed in 2010.
Dr Alka Sharma, of Oakfield Surgery, said: “We are delighted to provide an efficient, convenient and quality service for the local Penge and Anerley population.
“Our patients’ health and social care was the key driving force for this grand project. Our staff and patients have welcomed this move and we wish every success to all involved.
“We would like to thank NHS England, NHS Property Services, Haven Health, Bromley CCG and, most of all, our patients for their support and encouragement to allow us to be a part of this great change. The project is a great example of a patient-centred, forward thinking and responsive service in the community for the welfare of the local residents.”
Dr Angela Bhan, Chief Officer at NHS Bromley Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We welcome these new and improved health facilities as part of our drive to improve the quality of general practice and community services for people in Bromley.”
Yvonne Landau, Managing Director of Haven Properties, said: “We are delighted at the completion of this high quality modern primary care centre which is the culmination of many years’ effort by all concerned. Our good wishes to all the doctors, staff and patients of The Park and Oakfield Road practices for their future in the new building.”
Pauline Barnes, a director at Buxton Building Contractors, added: “As main building contractors, we are very proud to have been part of the successful delivery team for this new, modern Primary Health Care Medical facility in Bromley.
“Patients, staff and visitors within the local and surrounding communities can now reap the benefits of this quality building on a daily basis.”
