Review of the Year 2016

Date: 14 September 2016

Welcome to our review of 2015/16.

At the end of our third year as a clinical commissioning group we have seen many of our longer term improvement plans start to take real effect. More people with uncomplicated diabetes now get all the care they need in their GP surgery; new schemes are improving the flow of patients through hospital so that they are safely discharged back to the right setting quicker than before; more people are being diagnosed with dementia, which enables them to get the right support and treatment they need much earlier; and we funded an additional 11,000 GP appointments over the winter, including in the evening and at weekends.

The health and wellbeing of people in Bromley is our absolute priority. Good progress has been made to help people live well with complex and long-term conditions, but we must deliver services in a different way to meet growing needs for care. Over the year, we have worked closely with clinicians, patients and other partners to develop plans for more joined-up care that supports patients at the right time and in the right place. This is an approach we believe will, in the longer term, have a real impact on improving health and will help people to live longer and healthier lives.

Last year we also took on joint responsibility for commissioning primary care services from GP practices. This has provided us with a greater opportunity to influence these services. Our GP practices have a pivotal role in delivering and supporting improvements in Bromley.

There are huge challenges ahead, but also huge opportunities to get it right and make a real difference. We look forward to continuing our work with you and all our other partners in Bromley.
